March 30th 1838
John Graham Reports to the Committee
On Friday Last 8 Laden waggons belonging to South Durham Colliery came a main down the Black Boy South Bank and Broke other three of Adelaid Colliery waggons which was Standing at the Foot of the Plain Damage done to waggons About 35 £
J G is of opinion that part of the Damage ought to fall upon the Owners of South Durham Colliery as the waggons was Left standing upon the Incline Plain quite insecure by there Man
To prevent a recurrence JG would Strongly recomend

a throw off Switch being placed to work with a Rod and Leaver Similar to the one at Brusselton Engine
The Coal Trade has been very brisk and goes on in a very satisfactory manner Since Friday Last up to the Present time
The Coach Trains also has got on exceedingly well having keept there time and performed there Trips without the Slightest accident or detention, The Present Arraingements are likely to Answer well
